One of the most difficult things about switching to a low carb keto diet is giving up sugar.

Sugar contains a ton of hidden carbs just waiting to kick you out of ketosis. So typical sugary desserts are a big no no on a low carb keto diet. However, there are a good number of delicious and easy low carb keto dessert recipes that you can make to satisfy your sweet tooth and stay in ketosis.


What desserts can I eat on the keto diet?

  • Make sure the sugar source is low carb friendly (stevia, monkfruit, Swerve sweetener, etc.)

  • Sub almond or coconut flour for all purpose flour

  • Choose a natural sugar alternative when possible over an artificial sweetener. (example: stevia over sucralose)

  • Enjoy your dessert, but remember, it is still dessert- consume in moderation and in mind with your daily macronutrient goals


What desserts should I avoid on low carb/ keto diet?

  • Anything with a high carbohydrate count

  • Desserts containing high fructose corn syrup

  • Bread heavy desserts (typical examples- cake, donuts, sweet breads, etc.)

  • Most pre made desserts from the bakery section of your local grocery store

Can I have cream cheese on keto?

A typical ingredient in delicious desserts is cream cheese. And one of the best things about the keto and low carb diets, is that you can absolutely enjoy cream cheese! In fact, a lot of the easy keto dessert recipes below have cream cheese in them. Feel free to use the typical high fat version of cream cheese that is unflavored. Avoid flavored cream cheeses, as they contain added sugar, and therefore hidden carbs.

What are keto fat bombs?

Another easy low carb keto dessert that comes up a lot are fat bombs. Basically, following a keto diet means that you are starving your body of carbohydrates and replacing that with fat. For this reason, fat bombs are great for the keto diet.

You can easily make keto fat bombs that are sweet and serve as a great dessert on a low carb diet. A fat bomb is basically a high fat snack to provide energy.
